Can spermicide be used after sex to prevent pregnancy?
My boyfriend and I hate using condoms and do not really want kids right now. We are really careful using the rhythm method and condoms (when needed), but I was wondering about using spermicide. I wanted to know if it can be inserted after sex to kill the sperm. I have heard that spermicide tastes bad--he likes to perform oral sex on me after sex and before we go again.
I know that the rthym method is VERY unreliable. I can not take anything that has hormones in it because of a medical condition that I have. Some doctors think it could make it worse (others just are not sure). My boyfriend does not want to chance it so he is adamant that I do not use anything that has hormones.
We have talked about other methods, but I just moved and do not have a gyno yet and do not have health insurance yet.

No, It needs to be used before sex as after sex the sperm has already travelled into your cervix or uterus and the spermicide does not go that far in. Also not that the rhythm method is not a very reliable method.
“The rhythm method has an average failure rate of 13 to 20%. It is not recommended for women who have irregular cycles or who do not have menstrual cycles that are exactly the same number of days every month.â€
This means that if you have irregular cycles (which is common in girls who are still younger than 18 or so) it has an ever higher fail rate. I would suggest using a more reliable method such as the contraceptive pill. Do your research on the different methods and birth control and don’t listen to any myths that associate with some of them as many are wrong. Look at the facts and find a reliable method.
